Investigation continues in fatal accident

Medford, Ore. — Oregon State Police are continuing their investigation into Thursday morning’s tragic fatal accident on I-5, south of Phoenix.

Troopers say 42-year-old Richard Webster Scott of Grants Pass was driving north in the southbound lanes around 3 am, Thursday morning.

At that time they say Scott hit Ashland resident Karen Greenstein’s Honda Civic head-on.

The crash closed I-5 for more than 8 hours.

Oregon State Trooper Bill Matson said investigators did atraffic reconstruction of the scene, which puts together the scene, the dynamics, and the facts of the scene based on all the evidence.

That evidence includes interviews with witnesses and a thorough investigation of the events leading up to the accident.

When all of that evidence is collected, it will be handed over to the Jackson County District Attorney’s office.

Investigators believe Scott was drinking before the crash.

He remains in serious condition at OHSU in Portland.
