Jackson County Assesors Office Sends 19,000 Incorrect Property Tax Statements

The Jackson County Assessor’s office is apologizing for sending out more than 19,000 incorrect property tax statement’s.

Officials at the office say that the problem is due to an assessor error totalling $543,000 dollars.

Not only does that mean people were either over or under charged, but it also means that schools, cities, and other local governments who benefit from taxes were either wrongly credited or shortchanged.

The office plans to send out letters to property owners who didn’t pay their full share of property taxes and will be required to pay on average $28.32 in next year’s statement.

Those who overpaid, will also receive a check for the refund sometime in January.
