Medford, Ore. — Ashland resident Clark Jackson-Geil is one of the more than 120,000 voters registered in Jackson County. He said of voting “it’s important to exercise your voice, every person matters.”
A hotly contested sheriff’s race and hot button issues are on the May ballot. Jackson-Geil said he is getting out and voting partly because of the GMO measure. He said of the measure “I think that’s an important one because we are the only county in Oregon that can vote on that, and I think that could leave us in a unique situation there.”
County Clerk Chris Walker agreed that the GMO measure is one of the reasons many people are getting out to vote this year she said “money measures and the GMO are measures are really going to bring voters out and we can see that because that is the buzz around town right now.”
Whatever the buzz, more voters have registered for this primary in Jackson County than the presidential primary in 2012. Walker said that election had a 37% turnout, she expects this May to bring out more than 50% of registered voters. She said “any measure that spurs the people and brings out their passions brings them out to vote.”
Ashland resident Jackson-Geil will be one of them. He said “you got to stand up for what you believe in and try to make our world a better world.”
County Clerk Chris Walker said voters will see ballots in the mail as early as May 3rd.
