Judge Proposes Order in Unfair Labor Dispute

Medford’s Classified school district employees have been heard in an unfair labor practice complaint.

A judge has agreed that the Medford School District engaged in bad-faith, regressive bargaining.

In October 2011, employees were forced to accept a final order in their contracts that included 6 percent of pay go to their Public Employee Retirement System, or PERS. That stipulation was agreed upon to end in June of 2012, but when the final offer was imposed in October 2011 the district changed the stipulation that the rate would continue until new contracts were settled.

A judge has proposed order that asks the district to cease and desist the bad-faith bargaining and post a notice in all district work sites admitting wrongdoing.

The district will have an options to appeal the order if it is imposed.
