Kids Unlimited: Hoping For A Helping Hand This Thanksgiving

We’re now just a little over a week away until Thanksgiving and organizations that help the less fortunate are in need of a helping hand tonight. NBC5’s Laura Cavanaugh explains.

For 15 years, Medford’s Kids Unlimited has helped at-risk kids overcome barriers and flourish through their after school programs.

And each year, during Thanksgiving, they have served up a traditional feast of turkey and the trimmings for their students and their families, creating an extended family and a sense of normalcy during a time when families in poverty often struggle.

“It doesn’t take a lot, but it creates a spirit of being a part of something,” says Kids Unlimited Executive Director, Tom Cole.

Each year volunteers roll-up their sleeves to prepare the feast. The non-profit relying on community donations to feed those families in need.

“Last year we served over 500 meals, but with the expansion into White City, we are anticipating more families,” says Cole.

But they can’t fire up those ovens if they don’t have the food. And they need your help. With the annual event just about a week away, organizers are sending out an S.O.S.

Kids Unlimited is welcoming any and all food donations for that annual Thanksgiving meal, which will be served on Wednesday, November 21st. You can drop off items at their 821 N. Riverside Avenue location. If you would like to donate, you can give them a call
