Klamath Falls Facing ‘Light’ Road Construction Season

Those who don’t like road construction delays will have it easy this summer in Klamath Falls…However, a lack of money has put many road projects on ‘hold’.

Klamath Falls Public Works Director Mark Willrett says it will be a quiet summer…

“It’s going to be a pretty light construction season, from the streets perspective.”

One of the biggest city projects will take place on 9th Street, where grinding and inlay work will be coupled with a water main replacement.

Willrett notes that a project on the ‘Fred Meyer’ side of Washburn Way could also cause some traffic delays…

“We are doing some new sidewalks on Washburn Way, the east side, filling in the gaps between Crater Lake Parkway and Pershing Way.”

On the south suburban side of town, Klamath County Public Works director Stan Strickland reports that a project to install curbs, gutters, and sidewalks along a section of Altamont between Hilyard and Onyx will get underway in April, and continue through the summer.

While there’s no shortage of potential road projects, the city public works director says many of them just won’t get done…

“There’s definitely much greater need in Klamath Falls, I’m sure most of the citizens can attest to that – it’s basically a lack of funding.”

And as costs go up and revenues dwindle, it could be an increasingly bumpy ride.

The 9th Street project will soon be going out for bids, with construction expected to get underway sometime in June.

The Washburn Way sidewalk project will likely begin in July or August.
