Klamath Falls, Ore. — A Klamath Union High School graduate is headed to the Olympics…as Laurenne Ross has made the U.S. Olympic Ski Team.
K.U. Athletic Director Mike Herron says he’s not surprised to hear that Laurenne Ross is headed to the Olympics…
“I’m not surprised at all. That was Laurenne’s plan from the get go. She’s an incredibly hard worker, and she’s put the time in – and she’s earned the right to be there.”
Principal Jeff Bullock points out that Ross went to Junior World Championships during her senior year…
“And even though she was in and out of school for ski competition, she was still, as I said – She’s our valedictorian in the year of 2006 when she graduated.”
Ross noted in the 2006 yearbook that the world championship showed her how much further she had to go.
“I remember that she’s had some bad accidents.” Notes Principal Bullock. “But she has always bounced back because it’s her passion.”
Ross will compete in the downhill, super ‘G’, and super combined races.
Mike Herron says that not only is the school proud, but so is the town…
“I don’t know that you could find another small town that has as many Olympians from it as this area – and I think that’s pretty special.”
Laurenne Ross now lives in Bend.
