The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and SWAT teams closed a portion of Coleman Creek Road Thursday morning, after 41 year old Jon Ware allegedly shot at relatives of his neighbors who were returning borrowed property.
Ware willingly surrendered afterSWAT teams approached his home.
Friday, Ware appeared via video for an arraignment hearing.
While Ware was silenced, he listened as the two men who claim they were shot at Thursday addressed the courts.
NBC 5learned back on December 14, Ware voluntarily handed a rifle over to the sheriff’s department and had undergone a mental health evaluation.
Under Oregon Revised Statutes426.130, a court hearing would determine whether Ware was mentally ill, prohibiting him from purchasing or processing any firearms.
It’s unknown if ware ever had that hearing.
Despite surrendering one rifle, prosecutors say he clearly had more enabling him to open fire outside his home.
For now, Ware will remain behind bars at the Jackson County Jail on a $100,000 bail.
