Master Plan for Hawthorne Park in the Works

The ball is rolling and some new life could be pumped into Hawthorne Park.

“I’d like to bring kids to the area because it’s really needed for the children,” said park-goer, Susan Litwiller.

On Tuesday night, the Parks and Recreation Commission discussed what they’re calling the “Master Plan.”

Officials said it won’t be for another 2-3 more meetings until a formal recommendation is sent over to the Medford Urban Renewal Agency and Medford City Council…but when it does make an appearance…

“At Hawthorne Park I want to see a design that will encourage more people, mainly families to use the park,” said Dick Gordon, MURA Chairman and Medford City Councilor.

Priorities for the commission include a pool, playground, and other amenities.

Meantime, the plans sound good to many park-goers but they said city officials need to buck up on security.

“I think we really need to get this area cleaned up so it makes it a safe place if we’re going to bring the kids here,” said Litwiller.

According to the Master Plan, more lighting is also on tap to begin addressing that concern.

For those who are interested, the Medford Parks and Recreation has made their “Master Plan” for Hawthorne Park accessible here.
