Medford Resident Says Tree House Is Invading Privacy

It can be seen from the street along Greenbrook Road in Medford, a tree house starting to tower over the neighborhood.

“Ilike tree houses butI do not like being invaded in my privacy,” said neighbor Beth Powell.

“It’s about 17 feet tall, the thing is it just looms over my yard. It’s so evading. EverytimeI go outside this is whatI see.”

Powell says her neighbor began to build the tree house last November, only 16 inches away from the fence line but after a bit of research, she found that was against city code and that the tree house needed to be at least 4 feet away from the property line.

The neighbor tells me off camera that he originally planned to put in windows on the south side but he built it high enough so no kids could look down.

Medford city building codes say that building permits aren’t required to build a tree house…they wouldn’t confirmif they plan to take action.

Powell says she understands her neighbors wanting to build a tree house but she also wants her privacy.

She posted a sign behind her home, along the Lazy Creek bike path explaining the situation.

And she says reactions have been mixed.

Powell realizes the tree house most likely isn’t going anywhere but hopes her neighbors will do something to make it less of an eyesore.

The homeowners say he plans to paint the treehouse when the weather gets warmer to help it look more natural.

He also said that he wanted to build the tree house with his 5 year old son, so theycould have a sense of accomplishment.
