New Details on Woman Allegedly Raped, Beaten, and Held Against Her Will

Monday afternoon 44-yr-old Rodney Silva was arraigned in a Jackson County courtroom. He’s the man accused of holding a woman against her will at a Medford hotel, then raping and beating her.

He’s charged with assault and kidnapping in the second degree, sodomy and rape in the first degree. Those all Measure 11 crimes. Silva is also charged with coersion, assault in the 4th degree, eluding police and resisting arrest.

Now, new horrific details are coming out about the woman who police say was kept against her will in a Medford Inn hotel room.

“We have a lot of domestic violence cases unfortunately but not a lot of them at this level,” said Lt. Mike Budreau with the Medford Police Department.

Police said Silva raped and beat the woman, with whom he was apparently in a domestic relationship.

“She was beaten severely over a long period of time,” began Lt. Budreau.

“From her head to her toes she’s beat up bad and a lot of internal injuries too.”

According to hotel staff, it all started with a phone call on Friday when Silva was away.

“She called down from her room and said she needed help,” said Vicki Sullivan, the On-site Manager for the Medford Inn.

“She did not want me to call police […] I said if he’s been beating on you then I have to call the police and she said don’t do that because he will kill me if I do.”

But Sullivan said she had to do the right thing.

“Whether she wanted to call the police or not, we did because we knew there was something wrong.”

Sullivan said patrons must allow maid service into their rooms everyday, however Silva told everyone the victim was sick and that she needed to be left alone.

“[He] told her if she stepped foot outside, he would know because he was having the door watched.”

While police were still on scene responding to Sullivan’s 911 call, they said Silva showed up, then took right back off.

“Crashes his car, takes off on foot, resists us, I mean he’s a very violent man,” said Lt. Budreau.

Police said if the victim had not gotten away…

“We’ve seen domestic violence homicides before and this looks like this was going that direction based on his behavior.”

As of Monday evening, the victim was still in the hospital recovering.

Sullivan said the couple had stayed at the hotel for a number of weeks and previously fought, but she had no idea what was really going on.

“You do your best to keep a watchful eye,” began Sullivan.

“You can never tell a book by its cover. Generally the person would seem fine but you never know what goes on behind closed doors…No matter what place you stay at, there’s going to be problem sometimes.”

Silva, who is not from the Rogue Valley apparently has a record in California. According to the a Jackson County prosecutor, Silva just finished a 10-year sentence for a forcible sodomy case.

He is currently in the Jackson County Jail on $1-million bail. Silva is expected back in court on May 28th for a preliminary hearing.
