A new study on the Cascadia Subduction zone, the place where the rocky plate underneath the Pacific Ocean pushes under North America, may indicate the big upcoming earthquake could hit more offshore.
Scientists spent a month off the coast of Washington State, gathering data in hopes of locating the stickiest point on the Subduction zone.
That point would indicate where the upheaval would most likely occur during the big quake.
Preliminary results indicate the strongest upheaval point would be further out to sea, meaning a much bigger tsunami.
