“No to Tax Levy”

Citizens in Josephine County are preparing to vote on a tax levy this May 15th. The Sheriff’s Department says it will make or break current law enforcement… but not everyone agrees with it.

According to Mark Seligman, who is running for County Commissioner, a tax levy is not the answer. He says that citizens should not be paying for the budgeting mistakes of local politicians.

“You can’t tax any more in this county. We have seniors and those on fixed incomes they can’t afford this. The unemployment rate is high. These people who proposed this, they have the money, they have the jobs and that’s not fair,” says Seligman.

Under the new tax, residents would pay 1.99 per 1000 dollars of their property value. A similar tax levy was proposed in 2008 and failed.
