Oregon Lawmakers Propose a Trust For Oregon Federal Timberlands

Oregon lawmakers are urging Congress to create a trust to manage federal timberlands.

In the proposal, the trust would consist of 9 members appointed by Governor Kitzhaber.

They would manage around 2.7 million acres of federal Oregon and California railroad timberlands…

Those are currently overseen by the Bureau of Land Management.

Also in the proposal, approximately $1.6 million would be used to harvest at least 500 million board feet annually.

The house task force will continue discussions on Wednesday.
