Parts of Ashland Watershed to Close

Parts of the Ashland watershed will close tomorrow in preparation for tree thinning to decrease the risk of wildfire. Crews will be closing Ashland Loop Road above Morton Street and Forest Service road 20-60 coming from the west side of the watershed. The closure is part of the Ashland Forest Resiliency Stewardship Project. The closure also means a number of trails will be blocked off.

“I’ll certainly miss coming up here for the next month and a half, especially since spring is coming along. I come up here often enough just for some hikes and to enjoy the air, I guess I’ll have to go elsewhere for that,” said Taylor Jacob.

The roads and trails are expected to reopen May 1st. Meanwhile, former city councilor Eric Navickas has a pending lawsuit against the resiliency project and may seek an injunction.
