Possible Federal Relief For West Coast After 2011 Japan Tsunami

Federal disaster relief may be soon on the way for the West Coast, following the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami.

A disaster aid package has been proposed to cover Superstorm Sandy, and a portion of it may be going toward marine debris removal.

The proposed aid is for $60.4 billion.

Alaska’s two senators have requested up to $20 million for debris clean-up on the West Coast.

However, it’s not yet clear how much money would be given to the clean-up efforts.
