Rogue Valley Heritage District Proposed

A proposed levy could potentially help bring in big bucks for several local historical societies.

If approved, it would create the Rogue Valley Heritage District, and would raise more than 800-thousand dollars a year to benefit several Jackson County historical societies which are in need of additional funding.

This is not the first time supporters are trying to pass the levy.

In 2008, supporters failed to get enough signatures to qualify it for the ballot.

“The economy was not real good at that time, things are picking up and we are hoping people will be more willing to support history and they will learn the importance of continuing to support history.”

If passed, it would add a maximum of 5 cents to the assessed value of a property.

But historian’s say it’s worth it.
