The Klamath Falls City Council wants to keep shopping carts out of fields, and back in the stores.
Charles Anderson of the Klamath Falls Code Enforcement Office explains…
“The proposed ordinance essentially would put a little bit more responsibility on stores throughout Klamath Falls to round up their shopping carts, so they’re not lying around town on street corners, and in alleys.”
The carts cost between one and three hundred dollars each…but Anderson notes the ordinance wouldn’t focus on heavier penalties for cart theft.
“And that’s one of council’s primary concerns there – we don’t want to go after a 90 year old lady who walks her grocery cart home every day, and returns it.”
The city plans to send letters to local stores to get their feedback on the proposed ordinance.
The ordinance under consideration in Klamath Falls would be patterned after an ordinance adopted in Beaverton four years ago.
