Superbowl Sunday in the Rogue Valley

Today is a day that many sports fans wait all year for, Superbowl Sunday. And even though we may be a few thousand miles from all the action in New Orleans, there was plenty of action right here at home.

Superbowl Sunday, for sports fans there’s no better mix than football, beer, and wings. Something that Chaz Thomas knows a little too well.

“We’ve had a lot of orders already for people looking for their wings, it’s important to people,” said Thomas.

Thomas owns and manages Flappers Wild West Wings in Medford and says Superbowl Sunday is their busiest day all year. They’ve been prepping all weekend in anticipation making nearly three thousand hot wings.

“For us it’s like Christmas, it’s the best day of the year.”

Meanwhile wings were also on the menu for the several dozens of students who gathered at SOU’s Stevenson Union to watch the game. The event was organized by members of the student union who say they just wanted to bring everyone together.

“Provides a place to come out if they don’t have cable or they can’t go to the bars, so basically a place for them to come out and have a good time. Have some food, catch the game and enjoy each others company,” said Marquis Malcum.

Down the street, Redzone Sports Bar and Grill was at capacity. And with 15 flat panel HD TV’s it’s no wonder so many wanted to watch the game here.

“We have the most flat screen TV’s not only in Ashland, but in all of Southern Oregon, so no matter where you sit, you have a perfect view of the game,” said Austin Leleman.

It just goes to show you don’t have to be in the middle of New Orleans to be hit with Superbowl fever.
