Water Safety Reminders In Time For Summer

Officials are reminding Oregonians to be prepared this holiday weekend.

Boating under the influence of intoxicants, or b-u-i-i is not only dangerous…itis also illegal in Oregon and patrols will be out.

There must be a Coast-Guard approved, properly fitting life vest for every person on board…and children 12 and under must have theirs on at all times.

Officials remind water-goer’s to be prepared for unexpected emergencies, have safety kits and fire extinguishers in place and up to date and to remember that lakes and rivers are still very cold this early in the season.

If you should find yourself in swift moving water, stay with your boat. I you are overboard, it is important to go down the river feet-first and on your back..and finally, v-shapes in the river with smooth ripple are good indicators there is peril lurkng beneath the water’s surface.

Finally, let someone know where you plan on being and your planned retrun time.
