Wiard Park in Klamath Falls going smoke free

Klamath Falls, Ore. — Wiard Park in Klamath Falls will be going smoke free starting this Saturday, August 1st.

Its hoped that going smoke free will improve health, reduce the potential for fire, and result in a cleaner park.

For now, the designation doesn’t carry any fines or legal weight.

Kristen Wils, Klamath Public Health,”Not at this time, most likely the staff will be hopefully notified and ask them to leave, but it’s not an ordinance, it is a policy.”

Klamath Falls City Parks are already tobacco free in playgrounds and picnic areas.

The smoke free designation will apply to all areas of the Wiard Park District, including Crest Park, Keller Park, Etna Park, Alva Park, and Klein Park.
