Winter Storm Forces Closure of I-5, Strands Holiday Travelers

The unpredictable winter weather playing the role of Grinch this holiday weekend. It caused the sporadic closure of Interstate 5 Southbound since morning, stopping traffic dead in its tracks over the Siskiyou Pass to California. And that left hundreds of wayward travelers stranded.

NBC5’s Laura Cavanaugh reports.

**UPDATE:

As of late this evening just after 8pm, O-DOT llifted the travel ban over the pass southbound. And just before 11pm, they lifted the chain restrictions. But now northbound travelers on I-5 are facing challenges near Redding. The interstate is closed to northbound trucks 10 miles north of Redding at Fawndale Road due to snow.
