Josephine Co. Commissioner Simon Hare says he wont run for office again

Grants Pass, Ore.–  Commissioner Simon hare today reiterated his intention to fight a recall effort, but at the same time tells NBC5 news he may not be long for politics.

Hare was arrested for DUII in December on county business in Eugene.  He later pleaded no-contest to DUII and careless driving charges.

Hare says his personal issues have not impacted his performance as a commissioner and intends to fight off a potential recall, but he doesn’t intend to seek office again.

“It gives me energy to know that I wont be here for much longer.  I will try to get as much done in the time provided and leave it up to someone else to take over this board and this position.”

The recall petition, which started last month, needs to collect more than 5,000 verified signatures in 90 days to qualify for the may ballot.
