CVS sheds tobacco

(NBC News) As of Wednesday, Smokers and other tobacco users will have to shop somewhere other than CVS pharmacy locations.

The country’s largest drugstore chain has decided to stop carrying all cigarettes and other tobacco products.

“The fact that we’re delivering health care in a retail environment and at the same time selling tobacco, that contradiction was growing for us,” said Larry Merlo, CEO of the CVS drugstore chain.

Following through on a promise made earlier this year CVS is not only ditching tobacco products, but is also changing its name to CVS Health in order to promote its image as a health care provider.
