Man Arrested After Neighborhood is Put on Lock Down

Tonight, police say the man who eluded authorities and put one Medford neighborhood on lock down Friday night is behind bars.

Police arrested 44 year old Rodney Silva Friday evening.

Around 4:45 in the afternoon authorities responded to a report of an assault at a hotel on the 1000 block of Riverside avenue.

Authorities say they found a woman who had been held against her will and abused by Silva for several days.

When Silva was not there, she was able to get out of the room and have the hotel manager call 9-1-1.

Silva allegedly tried to go back to the hotel, was spotted by police then drove away, crashing his vehicle near 10th and Cottage and then took off on foot.

That’s when authorities put the area on lock down.

They eventually found him in a nearby utility trailer.

“He ran from the trailer, tried to jump the fence. Lt. Whipple was right there and able to take him to the ground. He continued to struggle and several officers arrived within a few moments and we were able to take him into custody.

Silva was arrested on numerous charges and is being held at the Jackson County Jail on more than 3 million dollars bail.

Meantime, the victim is recovering at an area hospital.
