As of Sunday, Oregon gained 6 new state laws.
The new laws were written in the 2012 Legislature session. Officials this morning say the laws are intended to make schools more safe, textbooks cheaper, and stop discrimination against Veterans.
School Districts are required to post school’s seismic ratings in the event of an earthquake.
Another school-related law requires teachers to report cyber-bullying, and for school to have bullying policies.
Textbooks will be cheaper for college students. Students will be able to receive college credits through different avenues, such as work experience or military training.
The final new law protects veterans from discrimination, the law requires the bureau of labor and industries to notify the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs of the discrimination.
These new laws are in effect as of July first.
