One Year Later: David Grubbs Murder Investigation

It’s one year to the day since 23-year-old David Grubbs was brutally murdered on the bike path in Ashland.

Many residents who live near the site where David Grubbs was killed are still unsettled with the Grubbs murder still unsolved.

According to police, someone used a roughly foot long knife to kill David Grubbs on the bike path behind Hunter Park in Ashland.

“To imagine it’s a year later, it’s just sort of unthinkable,” said Ashland resident Ruth Kirby.

Kirby said she walks the bike path frequently, but this November 19th, was different.

“Just came over to spend a couple minutes here knowing it was the day. That’s what i’m doing here, to say a prayer,” she said.

Meantime, police continue to investigate. Officers, pounding the pavement, and trying to connect the dots.

“We’re still following leads as they come in. I can’t really say how close we are,” said Ashland Police Chief Terry Holderness, when asked how close authorities are to catching Grubbs’ killer.

Last week search warrants were executed at a property in Talent and another in Ashland, but police won’t say what they did or did not find. Authorities said they still don’t have a suspect.

“There are people we received information on and we’re still evaluating that information,” said Chief Holderness.

Back over at Hunter Park, Ashland resident Debra Wolf said she still feels uneasy.

“I still don’t want to go out at night…I can’t imagine that no one has come forward,” said Wolf.

Even one year after the brutal murder, flowers still mark the spot where David Grubbs died. On Monday, a rainbow stretched over the memorial.

“When I walked up and saw the rainbow that was pretty special,” said Ruth Kirby.

Kind words etched in chalk, flowers, and a rainbow…all reminders of a person missed…and a life ended too soon.

There’s currently a $21,000 reward still on the table for anyone with information leading to an arrest.
