Outdoor Recreation Industry Boosts Oregon Economy

From hiking to fishing the amount of outdoor activities throughout southern Oregon is ever growing and with it billions of dollars and thousands of jobs and that means money into our local economy.

it’s just about here, the time of year when everyone is able to get outside and enjoy what is the beauty of southern Oregon.

According to the Outdoor Industry Association, outdoor recreation generates roughly $646 billion in consumer spending every year in the U.S.

Oregon generates roughly $12.8 billion and the industry creates 141,000 direct jobs in the state.

Hellgate Excursions is a major tourist destination in the region and even though their season doesn’t begin until May 1 tours are already selling out.

Officials at the Grants Pass Tourism Office say there is obvious increase in tourism this year.

Friday they launched a new tour designed to showcase the outdoors.
