The sun tries to peak through a smokey Grants Pass sky…five days after lightening sparked fires in Southern Oregon, the sky is a blur.
Rick Graw with the Forest Service has seen this before.
“Last year in Washington the smoke lasted for 30 days.. started in September and went into October.
Graw says these fires create a similar scenario hereand Margie King who’s breathing the smoke can’t believe it.
“Oh my goodness…that’s scary makes me uncomfortable..I guess its like living by a camp fire for 30 days,” says King.
Leaving some looking for ways to protect themselves.
“I’m wearing my mask because of the smoke and all the pollution right now,” says Emil Moravec.
At a press conference Wednesdayfire commanders talked about how their challenges play into what you’re seeing in the sky.
Brian Ballou explains, “Progress is going to be very slow there’s a lot of dead trees and a lot of snags.”
Now they’re hoping for the weather to help in their fire fight– helping you breath easier.
Graw recommends if you’re trying to avoid the smoke stay indoors and close all your windows. He also says it helps to purchase a “particulate respirator” mask that has the label “N-95” on it.
But be sure to call around because the Home Depot andWalmartin Grants Pass were sold out.
