Klamath Union High School is uniting behind 16 year old Travis Deutchman, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Travis Deutchman was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer on Friday…and his fellow students are rallying to support him.
“I’m really happy to see I have so many supporters here for me.” Said Deutchman. “Because this is a really hard time in my life.”
The diagnosis hit Travis’ older brother Nathan hard…
“It was a little overwhelming, shocking – a lot of people get cancer, but not many 16 year olds.”
Travis wants to be an actor, and one of his dreams is to ride in a limousine through Beverly Hills this spring break.
Lydia Mendez is one of many classmates who are working to make that dream come true…
“We have t-shirts that are 10 dollars for Travis, and we also have ‘cancer sucks’ bracelets that are a dollar, and car decals that are a dollar.”
Dutch Bros. at 6th and Klamath Avenue is also helping out. From 5:AM Friday to 5:AM Saturday, they’ll be donating 100 percent of their proceeds from sales of large drinks to Travis.
Travis says he finds comfort through prayers, and contact with friends…
“Anybody that wants to get to know me, just please talk to me. Contact me on Facebook, talk to me at school.”
Deutchman also has words of encouragement for others living with cancer…
“Live life if you have this cancer – I’m very sorry. Try to keep a smile on your face, and keep God in your heart.”
Klamath Union High School teacher Mary Mateos is taking donations for the Deutchman family through her account at Chase Bank.
Donations should be marked as ‘Donations for Travis Deutchman’.
