Tips For Fire Evacuations

With evacuations in place residents of Josephine County need to have a plan…make a kit…and get informed.

During a wildfire…if you are advised to do so evacuate immediately.

Take your disaster supply kit, lock your home, and choose a route away from the fire hazard. Watch for changes in the fire’s direction, and always tell someone that you left and where you are going.

If you are at risk of being evacuated but have time to protect your home, officials recommend wearing long sleeve clothing, protective pants, and sturdy shoes. While protecting your lungs from smoke with a mouth cover of some kind they recommend:

Closing attic and basement doors and vents, all inside doors, removing flammable window coverings andclosing all non-combustible window coverings to lower the radiant heat effects inside your home.

Other tips include place sprinklers on the roof, connect hoses, and fill all large containers and pools with water.

Also shut off natural gas, propane, or fuel supplies.
