Wrong way driver causes accident on I-5 north of Roseburg

0518 Wrong way driverDouglas County, Ore. – Police are on the lookout for a vehicle that allegedly drove the wrong way and caused an accident on I-5 north of Roseburg.

According to Oregon State Police, at around 7:40 Wednesday morning, troopers responded to reports of a two vehicle accident near the Sutherlin Interchange on I-5.

Troopers said the driver of an SUV encountered a wrong way driver that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. The driver of the SUV stopped suddenly to avoid a collision with the wrong way vehicle, and was subsequently rear-ended by a pickup truck.

There were no injuries in the accident.

The wrong way vehicle is described by troopers as a dark silver Ford Fiesta driven by an elderly man.

Police believe the man had driven several miles in the wrong lane prior to causing the crash. The man continued on his way after the accident and has not been located.

OSP is asking anyone with information about the wrong way driver to call 541-440-3334, extension 4725.
