Social media fueled campaigns

(NBC News) Super Tuesday kicked off the political battlefield of this year’s election, and many candidates were using a new type of tool to try and win their party’s nomination.

Presidential hopefuls have begun turning to social media to connect with voters, often tailoring specific messages to attract certain groups of people.

“Particularly Donald Trump, he has people who are crafting messages that are honed in on what his audience wants and are more likely to make people retweet them,” said Dan Patterson of TechRepublic.

And there is a reason these strategies are resonating, many of these posts are specifically created by the candidates’ marketing teams, using information about voters gained from big data brokers.
