Ten Search and Rescue teams meet for regional training

Howard Prairie Lake, Ore. — Multiple search and rescue groups from all over Southern Oregon and Northern California are here this weekend for their annual training.

Jackson County is hosting the CORSAR, or California Oregon Regional Search and Rescue Summer Exercise this year.

Teams have been at Howard Prairie Lake since Wednesday, taking part in exercises and classes. Organizers say the training helps immensely when large-scale incidents happen in any one of the counties.

“They’ve trained with us, we know what they’re doing, they know what we’re doing, and so it’s just going to make a very good continuity from one team to the next,” Shawn Richards said, a Sergeant with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Search and rescue teams from Jackson, Josephine, Lake, Klamath, Douglas, Coos, Curry, Del Norte, Siskiyou, and Shasta counties are there. Saturday is their last day of training.
